Every seller’s dream is to have as much traffic that generates buys, as possible. However, achieving this is not as easy as it seems. A lot of people spent enormous amounts of money on advertising, all in order to bring more customers to their website. Why is it then, that the average rate of e-commerce conversion is somewhere between 1-5%? What are store owners doing wrong?
Hashtags are a great social media marketing tool that many businesses dismiss simply because it reminds them of something that teenage girls use on Instagram. The truth is, hashtags are an underappreciated marketing campaign tool. Using them the right way can bring in traffic and new customers to any business.

It’s been a year since the launch of Google+ and one might wonder what’s happened in that time – no doubt Google is working hard to promote their social network. On one hand we see impressive growth numbers, but on the other we still spend more time on Facebook and hear that many of the Google+ profiles are in fact ‘dead’. Although Google has already shut down some of their projects in the past, it’s difficult to imagine that the same awaits their social network – it’s in a too advanced stage to back down and, as it seems, Google cares too much about it. So what does the future hold for Google+?
It didn’t take Google long to follow into Facebook footsteps and change the look of their social website. Unlike Facebook, the change was not as drastic and didn’t leave an unprepared profile looking plain. Still, an updated look meant some redecorating on our (the PayLane’s) part.
Google offered two possible looks of the site: one involved a long cover picture and the other offered a chopped version, composing of five small squared pictures. At first, the first option seemed to be a good idea, but soon proved to be rather tricky. The chopped version was much more interesting to design.
Everybody (and their uncle) knows about the Facebook Timeline. On March 30th the brand profiles changed their look. Some companies embraced the Timeline earlier, which made the design job a real challenge: how to do something quite original and stay within the borders of company’s policy?
PayLane’s TimeLine – time-consuming but rewarding
We wanted something special for the PayLane’s Facebook cover. Naturally, it had to be connected with our business: credit cards, online payments… But we wanted the cover to convey more than that. We wanted to show that we are a group of people with passion for payments.
If some of you were wondering what a graphic designer actually does at a payment processing company, now is the time to lift the shroud of mystery. Designing a 404/500 error page seems rather trivial (especially in comparison to infographics), but it proved an interesting task.
You could have seen the finished designs in one of the previous posts. I’d like to show you some of the designs that could have been… And why they didn’t make it. In other words: welcome to my sketchbook.
What factors make for a successful business? Is it the product? Of course. Customer support? Sure. Competitive prices? Naturally. But what if a potential customer doesn’t get to experience the quality of your services, because they have been put off by your company’s site, which looks as if it was “designed” by a 10-year-old in 1996?
An attractive, eye-catching website has become the norm in today’s e-commerce world. Is it still possible to run a business without a site or one that is absolutely atrocious? Have you ever been discouraged from shopping online or using someone’s services based on their www?
A website is a make-or-break of a company. So, to make sure you don’t fall into the latter category, here are 4 main tips you might want to follow…
What prompted me to interview Guy Kawasaki? Well, first of all the very natural desire of meeting an author, to talk to the person who wrote something I’ve read or composed music I’ve listened to. That’s simple curiosity, I was interested what more can Guy say… Also, while reading “Enchantment”, some questions came up in my mind and I just couldn’t find right answers in the book. So, naturally, I had to ask the author! :) We talked about inspirations and enchantment process in SMB. But we also discussed Google Plus a lot – it’s the new Guy’s passion.
So make yourself a cup of coffee, sit back in your favorite chair and enjoy reading.
Everyone needs to refresh his mind, get some inspiration. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re an employee or an employer. And of course everyone wants to get inspired and learn from the best. I reached for the latest book by Guy Kawasaki – “Enchantment. The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions”. I was wondering if the former Apple’s evangelist can offer anything for small and medium businesses, any useful tips on how to make a SMB become a great one.
To be honest, reading first chapter of Enchantment I thought Guy made fun of readers. Smile truly, shake hands with eye contact, dress to feel comfortable, accept others, show your passion… Is this really “the secret” of the former Apple’s evangelist? You can read this sort of advices in many other books on business psychology or learn it at business courses. Yes, I’ve definitely heard it before. But – without discouragement – I continued reading and chapter after chapter I became more enchanted. Why?
